Outdoor events – hand hygiene requirements for caterers

Hand washing at outdoor events

Separate basins for hand washing are essential

A number of washing facilities are essential for all outdoor events food suppliers – including separate sinks or basins for hand washing reports the Eden District Council website.

Contamination risk should be designed out as much as possible for both food stalls and catering vehicles, according to the Council.

Required washing facilities

“Sufficient sinks must be provided for the cleaning and where necessary, disinfection of equipment used on the vehicle / stall” advises the Guidance.

“Where food is washed, a separate sink will usually be necessary.”

“In addition to the above, a separate wash hand basin must be provided. An adequate supply of hot and cold water must be available at all times together with a supply of soap and paper towels or other means of hand drying.”
