Street food vendors – how to excel at an inspection

Handeman-Xtra portable sinks for hand washing

Good health and safety standards are critical

The Health & Safety Policy document is just the first of many considerations, according to a recent report on Streetzine, the Street Food News website.

The article, written by Liz Burton, content author for High Speed Training is a largely positive and hugely helpful one for Street Food caterers – but does contains some significant warnings and advice.

Legal requirements are the priority

Good health and safety standards should have the highest of all priorities advises Ms Burton. Being in an enclosed space greatly increases hygiene risks.

A street food vendor should consider six key legal matters, according to the article. And of course a water supply and hand washing facilities are most important.

“Sufficient and suitable hand wash basins must be provided and readily accessible for food handlers. Soap and a means to hygienically dry hands must be available.

“Food handlers must always wash their hands before starting work and after handling any raw foods, using the toilet, breaks, sneezing, coughing, etc.”
