How a threat for the construction industry can easily be averted
Construction workers who come into contact with dirty water in areas such as waterways, sewers and derelict areas are particularly at risk, according to Darren Williamson, Product & Procurement Manager for Arco, who is quoted in the report.
Mr Williamson advises that
“At the start of a new construction project, in particular those first on site and undertaking groundworks need to beware that infection can lurk in surrounding rundown areas. Ultimately, everyone working on a construction site is at risk.”
An employer’s duty of care
The article provides some useful advice for employers to follow good personal hygiene practices and mentions protective clothing and hand wipes, but reveals the biggest single potential problem in these circumstances:-
“Good hygiene can sometimes go amiss, especially as water supply can be sparse on site.”
There is a simple solution – mobile sinks!
In fact the biggest single problem faced by construction workers is something that an employer can easily and efficiently overcome – by the provision of mobile hand wash units.
These units can be filled with fresh water before setting out on location – or simply refilled from any water container that is carried to the site. From the highly portable Handeman Xtra Portable, which can be taken anywhere, to the TEAL range of automotive units which enable a workforce to be able to enjoy a hot water hand wash wherever it’s needed!
Portable sinks for really effective hand washing
TEAL produces an incredible range of mobile sinks and portable basins for every type of hand washing situation for use by a mobile workforce – including construction workers and engineers – who are out in the field on a daily basis.
There are vehicle mounted, wall mounted, mains powered and free standing hand wash stations as well as mobile sinks with pre-heated hot water.
