Isle of Man hand washing campaign has been launched

The Department of Health and Social Care, Isle of Man, has begun a Keep ā€˜em Clean campaign according to a recent report on the IsleOfMan.com website.

The campaign has clear objectives according to the article by MT. It “aims to raise awareness that good hand hygiene is the most effective way to prevent healthcare-associated infection, reducing the spread of bacteria and viruses.”

Patients and visitors will be encouraged by Keep ā€˜em Clean to enquire if staff have washed their hands before beginningĀ treatment.

A specialist nurse in Infection Prevention and Control Gaynor Roberts is quoted as saying

ā€œEffective hand hygiene will protect you and others by helping to reduce the transfer of micro-organisms (germs) to other people.Ā  Remember that even if your hands look clean, they may still be carrying germs ā€“ this is why it is so important to clean your hands regularly. This prevents transferring infection from home, school, GP surgeries, hospitals and other healthcare settings.ā€
