A company in West Bridgford in Nottinghamshire is one of the first recipients in the area of a 5-star hygiene rating under the Hygiene Accreditation Scheme (HAS). This is an “initiative put in place to improve and maintain hygiene and safety standards within premises offering tattooing, semi-permanent make-up and cosmetic body piercing treatments”, according to a recent report on the West Bridgford Wire website

Rehab Beauty in Nottingham received the highest rating possible under the scheme, which operates in a similar fashion to the food hygiene rating scheme says the article. Environmental Health Officers inspect the premises with the resulting rating being based on “safety and cleanliness”.

Hand washing at the point of need is crucial

Nottinghamshire’s Hygiene Accreditation Scheme (HAS) is a voluntary scheme set up to improve and maintain hygiene and safety standards within premises offering tattooing, semi-permanent makeup and cosmetic body piercing treatments.

The HAS’s Audit Tool, under “Cleanliness, Personal Hygiene and Safety of Operators” requires a positive answer to the question

“Are suitable and sufficient washing facilities with an adequate and constant supply of clean hot and cold water, soap or detergent for the sole use of operators appropriately located in the treatment area.” Yes/No.

All operators are required to demonstrate their competence of hand washing procedures and there must also be a written strategy to help ensure that hand hygiene is carried out in an effective way.
