Open Farm Sunday – why hand wash units are essential

Washing hands on farm visits with Teal WashStand

Running and water and liquid soap must be provided

LEAF Open Farm Sunday this year takes place on the 9th June – and according to the event website will involve hundreds of farms over the UK.

“As the farming industry’s annual open day, it offers a fantastic chance for people to discover real farming at first hand and see for themselves how their food (and much more besides) is produced.”

Farmers can obtain a “wide range” of support by registering their event advises the website.

Changing opinions on farming

The Farmers Guardian website is extremely positive about the forthcoming event, stating that “…the statistics from last year prove that it is only becoming more popular.”

The article’s author, Emily Ashworth, lists many advantages that can arise from active participation in Open Farm Sunday, not least with enabling a greater understanding of the benefits provided by farmers and farming.

“In 2018, 90 per cent of visitors said the event changed the way they thought about farming, and a further 86 per cent admitted they felt more connected to the farmers who produced their food.”

Preparation must be diligent for the event – and the article provides useful advice regarding booking, controlling numbers and how to direct visitors.

Hand washing facilities

Health and safety will of course be most important advises Ms. Ashworth, with the provision of hand washing facilities being essential for all visitors.

“You must offer adequate hand washing – cold running water, with liquid soap and paper towels is sufficient…”
