Hand wash units help beauticians comply with licensing and health requirements

Portable, practical and effective – with warm running water

Beauty therapists have welcomed the launch of a Teal range of portable handwashing units that will help them achieve compliance and earn their licence to operate.

Teal unveiled its new beauty range at the recent Beauty UK show at the NEC and has already received a high number of orders not just for the dedicated pink units that have been developed for the market, but also the blue and grey units that are used by a wide range of professions.

Visitors to the stand were impressed by the portable Handeman Xtra, stylish Teal Hygenius and practical Teal Super Stallette. They felt the versatile range would meet a variety of needs, from being suitable for mobile salons and services, through to providing access to running water in studios and salons in sheds, portacabins and even spare bedrooms that did not necessarily have easy access to mains running water.

For beauty professionals, keeping hands clean and free from harmful bacteria and contaminants while providing treatments, means that running water can be an essential requirement for them to receive their licence to operate, especially if they offer acupuncture or microblading. Local authorities insist on the availability of hot running water as well as hands free tap operation to minimise the risk of infection.

The Hair and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), in its guidance on hygiene in beauty and spa therapy, states hands must be washed before and after treating a client, as well as after handling food, using the toilet, and even after handling money. It advises using soap, preferably from a liquid soap dispenser, where the whole assembly is disposed of once the soap has run out. It advocates a 10-20 second wash and taps that can be operated by elbows or feet to ensure hands stay clean. This high level of hand hygiene can be achieved using the Teal units that also come with soap dispensing and paper towel accessories.
