Join in with Global Handwashing Day on October 15
As the campaign so succinctly states – “Clean hands are within reach”.
This year’s Global Handwashing Day takes place on October 15th and it’s the ideal time to focus on the importance of hand washing with soap and water to ensure that it’s carried out in the right way at the right times by as many people as possible.
The global advocacy functions to demonstrate that effective washing is both an effective and – importantly – affordable way of preventing the spread of infection and illness. Hand washing saves many lives every year across the globe, but the number could be so much more impressive if more people got the point of it.
The website states that
“Global Handwashing Day is an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.”
The event first took place in 2008 says the website, when children – 120 million of them – across more than 70 countries jointly demonstrated the positive power of effective hand hygiene.
The 2023 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Clean hands are within reach.”

It’s also important to remember that hand washing should be a 365 days a year activity says the Global Handwashing Day campaign. It accordingly provides a number of resources showing “…how you can make handwashing a centerpiece of healthy behaviors around the year.”
