Nearly 15,000 street food and delivery businesses registered last year
Consumers across the UK are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of well cooked and presented street food: this has allowed new, smaller brands and innovative recipes and ingredients to emerge across the country, according to a recent article on the Verdict Foodservice website.
The report features Companies House records for the past year which reveal that 14,363 takeaway and mobile food service businesses were registered – compared to only 9,405 licensed restaurants.
This is a trend that is expected to continue, says the report.
“Street food in particular has been the source of great influence for both foodservice and retail in recent years, and this will continue to grow as increased access to these types of retailers shape consumers’ consumption habits.”
The street food shift – away from permanent “bricks and mortar” establishments – has been prompted in part by consumers who are increasingly inspired to try out original food and drink flavours.
