Hassle-free hospital handwashing

Hot water handwashing in hospitals is easier than ever before with the launch of the revolutionary Hygienius Prowash® from TEAL.

Prowash hot water hand wash sinks and basinsThis purpose built and portable unit automatically delivers a hot water hand wash that exactly matches National Health Service requirements as described in the document "Hand washing techniques with soap and water" produced by the National Patient Safety Agency – allowing staff and hospital visitors to have a hand wash that meets the guidelines every time they use it.

The Hygienius Prowash® features a unique hot wash programme that is fully automatic and requires no adjustment:

• When hands are placed in the bowl the Greensensor starts to flash and the unit delivers a two second spurt of water to enable users to thoroughly wet their hands.

• There is then a 15 second pause in the water flow to allow enough time to follow the recommended hand washing procedures with antiseptic soap.

• At the end of this period the Green sensor stops flashing to indicate the start of a ten second hot wash at the correct temperature of 40-45°C – plenty of time for hands to be rinsed thoroughly.

• On removing hands from the bowl the Greensensor comes back on and the unit is ready to be used again.

Each Hygienius Prowash® holds enough clean water for 45 hot wash cycles and hygienically stores all dirty water safely. There is no fixed plumbing or drainage with water stored inside the unit in a specially designed TEALtainer™ Twinbag that is easy to empty and refill.

A prototype of the Hygienius Prowash® was on show at the recent Infection Prevention Society Conference in Harrogate where it received a very positive reaction from healthcare professionals.
